PAPER RECYCLING
The Menard County Paper Recycling Program will be discontinued, indefinitely. It is expected that the recycling containers that are currently located in Petersburg, Athens, Greenview, Tallula and Oakford will be removed by July 1, 2010. This was a free service to both the County and its residents. Current costs have made it problematic for the area hauler to continue providing this service for free. The County has decided that the program must be discontinued at this time. If the County is able to provide this free program in the future, notice to do so will be given via the local papers and the County’s website, menardcountyil.com.
E-WASTE RECYCLING
Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries & Electronic Recycling
In an effort to curb the flow of computers and electronics into landfills, Menard County is partnering with Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries to alert residents to a program called “Dell Reconnect”. Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries has participated in Dell Reconnect as a collector since May 2009. The program allows Land of Lincoln Goodwill locations to accept any brand of used computer equipment, in any condition, and just about anything that can be connected to a computer, at no cost. (Please be aware that Menard County, Dell and Goodwill Industries do not accept liability for lost or confidential data or software. Donor is also responsible for backing up any valuable information and erasing sensitive date from the hard drive before dropping it off.)
For more information about this program, please contact Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries at (217) 789-0400 or visit their website at http://www.llgi.org/computer-recycling-dell-reconnect/. Please be aware that the County will work with Land of Lincoln Goodwill Industries to host collection events in Menard County, weather permitting. Details will become available when dates are set. Please visit this website for notice information.
